Three Steps that Help you Devise your Influencer Marketing Strategy

More and more studies show that the audiences these days trust recommendations from influencers much more than communication from the brand itself. This means it’s imperative that you create an influencer marketing strategy very carefully to ensure the success of your campaign.

Must-know things before creating an influencer marketing strategy

There are three things that you must keep in mind before you start your influencer marketing campaign.

1. Know your target audience – business is all about knowing your customer. You have to know the target audience that you are trying to influence through your campaign.  Knowing the demographics, as well as socio-cultural makeup of the target audience, will help you devise a strong strategy.

Don’t try to target everyone. It never works that way. Even FMCG like bread and groceries have different customers that buy different brands based on their needs. Always target a niche. It’s cost effective too.

2. Know your objectives – you have to know very clearly what you want to achieve from your campaign. Is it brand awareness? Do you want more visitors to your website? Or is conversion the real target?

If the last is your primary objective, you have to have even more clarity – like by what percentage would you want sales/revenues to go up? Unless you have those numbers, you can’t calculate how successful the campaign and how good the ROI has been.

3. Know your influencers – who will be the ideal influencer for your campaign? That is a critical question to explore before the start of the campaign. The influencer’s profile, personality; the followers and their profile – everything is important and goes a long way in making your campaign a success. You should also know whether an Instagram influencer is more suitable or a facebook influencer - keeping in mind your product and customer profile.  A social media platform that works for one campaign may not necessarily work for the other.

While at the ‘following’, it’s important to keep in mind that just the numbers are not enough. An influencer has to have a loyal following that trusts the word of the influencer and would make a purchase on his/her recommendation.

If you know your audience, objective and your influencer before you start your campaign, there is no way your influencer marketing strategy can fail.
